James W. Lintott
James W. Lintott has extensive experience managing all aspects of private foundations having served as head of one of the nation's largest private foundations, as chief financial officer of a division of a $35 billion privately held company, and as a principal of Sterling Foundation Management, LLC. He assisted Dr. Brownell and Mr. Rudd in establishing the Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity at Yale University and is currently an advisor to the Center. His work emphasizes both the technical and practical aspects of foundation management making him a sought-after speaker for both professional and lay audiences. His recent talks have included presentations to a group of the nation's top estate planning attorneys on the topic of private foundation compliance, and to very wealthy donors on the topic of planned giving.
Mr. Lintott received his J.D. (with distinction) from Stanford Law School, as well as an M.A. in applied economics and B.A. degrees (Phi Beta Kappa) in economics and political science from Stanford University. He was a senior editor of Stanford Law Review. Mr. Lintott was also instrumental in developing the non-profit Stanford Law School Asian Trade Consortium, and was a founding member of the non-profit Stanford Law and Business Society.
Mr. Lintott develops a wide range of successful philanthropic projects for clients in such diverse areas as destigmatization of medical conditions, the effectiveness of scholarship programs, specialized local cancer screening programs, and educational curricula for college and graduate students. He created Sterling's Vision, Values, and Family program, a systematic approach to sharing philanthropic vision with children, grandchildren, or other young people.
Mr. Lintott is a member of the White House Fellows Selection Panel and serves on the boards of a number of nationally known charities, including the Tax Foundation. He is an Advisory Board member of the American Festival of the Arts and was Vice Chair of the Asia Society's Annual Benefit and a US-Japan Fellow. Jim is a founder and director, along with his wife, of their family foundation.
