Yale Center for Eating and Weight Disorders

For more than two decades, the Yale Center for Eating and Weight Disorders (YCEWD) has been serving men, women, and children who experience problems related to food, eating, weight, and body image. The YCEWD professionals specialize in providing treatment for individuals who struggle with binge eating, bulimia nervosa, anorexia nervosa, and other types of eating disorders. Group, family and individual sessions are offered on an outpatient basis. We also provide psychological evaluations for bariatric surgery candidates. YCEWD is operated by the Yale University Department of Psychology and provides services to members of the community, trains doctoral students in clinical psychology, and conducts clinical research to better understand eating and weight disorders.

The YCEWD is committed to providing treatments proven by research to be effective. Therefore, we specialize in cognitive-behavioral interventions, an empirically supported treatment for eating disorders. This kind of treatment is generally time-limited and focused on decreasing or eliminating the actual symptoms of the eating disorder.

The YCEWD provides psychological treatment. Many of our clients also require medical care, nutrition consultations, or psychiatric medication; for these services, we are happy to collaborate with appropriate clinicians in the community.
