The Rudd Center Seminar Series welcomes speakers from different disciplines to present and discuss their work and its implications for the study of obesity and food policy.  The Rudd Center is interdisciplinary, and our meetings are attended by a diverse group representing psychology, public health, law, medicine, nursing, public policy, and other fields.  Our meetings are open to the public, and all are invited to attend.

Neil D. Hamilton, JD

Dr. Hamilton serves as Director of the Agricultural Law Center and Opperman Chair of Law at Drake University Law School. An expert on environmental regulation of agriculture and the connections between food and the law, he will speaking to the Rudd Center about Food Democracy: The Role of Law in Shaping America's Diet on Wednesday, May 21, at 12:30pm.

Greater New Haven Childhood Obesity Summit

Presented by the Leadership Greater New Haven Obesity Team and the New Haven Food Policy Council, the Greater New Haven Childhood Obesity Summit will take place on Thursday, May 22, 2008, from 7:45am - 1:00pm at 300 George Street, New Haven, CT. This event is free and includes a healthy fresh lunch featuring foods grown on local farms. Please see the flyer for more information, including how to RSVP.

Frank C. Keil, PhD

A Professor of Psychology at Yale University and Master of Morse College, Dr. Keil has received national honors for his work on cognition and cognitive development. His talk at the Rudd Center will explore Health Literacy in Children and Adults: Implications for Healthy Diets and Lifestyles. Join us for his seminar on Wednesday, May 28, at 12:30pm.

Judith A. Fifield, PhD

Dr. Fifield serves as Professor and Director of the Ethel Donaghue Center for Translating Research into Practice and Policy (TRIPP) at the University of Connecticut Health Center, where she also serves as Director of Research in Family Medicine. Join us on Wednesday, June 18, at 12:30pm for her talk, titled SisterTalk Hartford, A Faith Based Weight Control Program: Not Just Weight Watchers in the Church.

Sara A. Benjamin, PhD, MPH

Dr. Benjamin is a post-doctoral research fellow in the Obesity Prevention Program at the Department of Ambulatory Care and Prevention, Harvard Medical School and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care. Join us on Thursday, July 31, at 12:30pm for her talk, titled A State Policy-based Approach to Obesity Prevention in Child Care.
