Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity

Food and Addiction Conference

Nearly forty experts in nutrition, obesity, and addiction gathered at Yale University on July 9-10, 2007, to discuss the controversial topic of food and addiction. Nora Volkow, M.D., director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse, was the keynote speaker and presented the group with her current research findings. The meeting was co-chaired by the Rudd Center’s Kelly Brownell, Ph.D., and addiction specialist Mark Gold of the University of Florida, both of whom delivered presentations about the current food environment. The historic meeting focused on MRI research, reward pathways in the brain, the similarities in the way drugs and food affect the brain, and the implications of this research in the medical field and public policy realm.
