Bill:KS HR 6071 - Designate April 7-13, 2014 as National Public Health Week in Kansas
Summary:This bill would acknowledge that one in two deaths in Kansas are related to preventable diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and cancer – and that 75% of the nation's healthcare dollars are spent treating such diseases. However, only 3% of our health care dollars go toward prevention. Therefore, this bill would designate April 7-13, 2014 as National Public Health Week in Kansas and support the American Public Health Association and the Kansas Public Health Association.

Summary:Would create an obesity prevention and management task force. The task force would recommend ways to promote the recognition of being overweight and obese as a major public health problem in Kansas that also has serious implications for Kansas' economic prosperity, review data and other research to determine the number of Kansas' children who are overweight or at risk of becoming overweight, identify the contributing factors to the increasing burden of being overweight and obese in Kansas, recommend ways to
