"Urban Agriculture Movement" Takes Shape

An “urban agriculture movement” is growing vigorously in such cities as New York, Detroit, Milwaukee, and Oakland, where determined gardeners are turning vacant lots into breeding grounds for produce to sell to neighbors. City farmers provide much needed relief for low-income populations with high rates of obesity and diabetes yet severely limited access to fresh fruits and vegetables.
