Snack Ban "Helps Healthy Eating"
A year-long study by researchers at the Cardiff Institute of Society, Health and Ethics has found that peer pressure influences eating habits in young people. Most notably, children who attended schools which had "no junk food" or "fruit only” policies were more willing to eat fruit as a snack at school, since they and their peers were not tempted by or permitted to eat unhealthy snacks. The study highlights the importance of peer modeling in forming eating preferences, and emphasizes the need for schools to put junk food bans in effect as necessary health interventions.
