Obesity Costing Australia Billions
Diabetes Australia, the national body for diabetes prevention in Australia, recently sat before the Federal Parliamentary Committee to stress the importance of government-funded long-term strategies to combat obesity. Health experts noted that the annual cost of obesity in 2005 was $25 billion, and that the House of Representatives Health Committee must make significant policy to improve nutrition and activity, and to prevent the health care system from collapsing.
